Come talk Derby to us!Saturday, May 4th the Kentucky Derby will be showing at BURLY Brewing Co. It’s that day of the year in which you can dust off the craziest hat you have and actually wear it some place and fit in – to an extent. BURLY is that place coming this May 4th. We’ll have the Kentucky Derby going on the screens, beer in glasses and of course, but most importantly, that hat on your head could get you free BURLY stuff! That’s right – – anything from free beer to BURLY gear. Stop by and talk derby to us! One simply doesn’t show up to a Kentucky Derby party with a baseball cap atop their head and expect to be accepted into the distinguished crowd of race-enthusiasts and consumers of expensive mixed drink concoctions. No, it’s a high-class party and it appears that there is a great deal of history to this fascinating event in America every spring. And yes, alcoholic drinks are most certainly in high demand. Via a story from ABC News: It’s a tradition that dates back to when the Kentucky Derby first started in 1875, stylist and creative director of YRB magazine Darius Baptist told ABC News.
“When women got dressed up, especially when they were going to church and formal events, the woman’s crowning glory was the hat,” he explained. “In the South, women pride themselves on being Southern belles so wearing a hat to the Derby plays off of that.“It’s also a combination of Southern culture and British culture,” Baptist added.
